Mathildestua

From Breivika in Bodø . Originally a farmhouse from Seines by Saltstraumen. Set up in Bodøsjøen in 1959.

A homestead house

Mathilde Kristine Bremnes born on October 10, 1872 in Seines in Gildeskål , is the lady this house is named after. The house is originally a farmhouse that was moved from Seines to Breivika in Bodø around 1900.

Mathildestua stood on the site where four plots were eventually separated (Hundestedveien. No. 5 and 7, Fredensborgvn. 65 and 67), but as long as Mathilde lived, the house was to be left alone.

Mathilde was married to sailor Hans Aksel Ulriksen Bremnes and they had two children; Harald Julian Ingmar (1904) and Olea Mathilde Gurine (1912). Mathilde was a hardworking person and did the same chores as most housewives at the time, which included spinning, knitting, weaving, flatbread and lefse baking. It is said that she was a good, kind and helpful person.

In 1959, the museum was given the house, which was then moved to Bodøsjøen . The ceiling height is low in the old and venerable living room, but the timber in the walls is still old and good. Originally the house consisted of three rooms and a utility room, but the utility room and the hall were converted into a hallway and bathroom. Work on the house took place over several years, and in the period 1979-1986 Matildestua was used as a caretaker's residence. In this connection, the house was winter insulated and more modernized, with a view to the bathroom and kitchen.
