About the Nordland Museum

Nordlandsmuseet has museum facilities in all of Salten's nine municipalities - Bodø , Fauske , Saltdal , Sørfold , Steigen , Hamarøy , Beiarn , Gildeskål and Meløy We work with the collection, preservation, research and dissemination of cultural history, and manage both buildings, objects and intangible cultural heritage.

  • Our collections are spread across over 140 buildings, approximately 50,000 objects, approximately 280,000 photographs and approximately 400 metres of shelving with archives.

  • The Nordlandsmuseet was founded on 20.12.2002 as a result of the state-initiated consolidation process in Report to the Storting no. 22 (2000) Sources of knowledge and experience , and then took over the museum operations in the nine municipalities in Salten.

  • 81,000 visitors annually

  • The Jekt Trade Museum In 2024, it was awarded the prestigious Museum of the Year award by the Norwegian Museums Association.
