Fishermen's cabins

From Kuholmen in Skrova in Lofoten. Set up in Bodøsjøen in 1939.

A seasonal dwelling for fishermen, often located in a fishing village. Fishermen's huts were particularly important at a time when fishing was done from open boats. A fisherman's hut had sleeping accommodations for one or more boat crews, space for cooking, and storage space for equipment, as well as a workplace for the fishermen.

The fishermen's huts in the fishing villages could belong to the fishermen themselves, or they could belong to the owner.

Fishermen's huts and fishing villages were linked to the large regular seasonal fisheries, primarily to the fishing for skrei from Sunnmøre and northwards.

Fishermen's huts are still used today by some fishermen who participate in the Lofoten fishing.
