Exhibition opening: Bodø stories

What have we thrown away and buried down through the ages? Can we understand a place and landscape through what is unwanted, what is chosen away? Is Bodø a city you can both live and die in? What does wind competence really mean and what does it sound like in the Storm's interior?

Opening September 20th at the City Museum

Welcome to the opening of the art exhibition Bodøhistorier, which will be on display at the Bodø City Museum this fall. In the exhibition you can experience a number of artworks inspired by Bodø, the city's history, architecture, infrastructure and population.

In 2023, seven artists were invited to the city to develop art projects based in Bodø. Through sound, textile, photography, sculpture and video, the artists have created new narratives and highlighted unknown and alternative stories about Bodø and the people who live there.

Artists

The artists who have developed artwork for Bodøhistorier are Helene Sommer, Kristin Tårnes, Linn R. Åmo, Marianne Bjørnmyr, Marsil Andjelov Al-Mahamid, Søssa Jørgensen and Geir Tore Holm. The exhibition is a collaboration with Bodø Art Association, and is curated by Helga-Marie Nordby. Bodøhistorier is supported by the Norwegian Arts Council, Nordland County Municipality, Bodø Municipality and the Norwegian Art Associations.

Opening program

  • Bodø stories to Piccadilly: Bodø book and concert with Bodø Radio
    Friday 19 September at 19:00.

    Bodøbook

You will meet the voices behind Bodøboka - In the anthology Bodøboka, six authors have been given free rein to write place-specific texts that reflect their relationship to Bodø. Through short stories, essays and poetry, alternative stories about the city and its people are brought to light.

The texts in the Bodøboka are literary explorations of place and self-examinations written by a stellar cast of writers with connections to Bodø: Mathias N. Asplund, Endre Lund Eriksen, Sondre Midthun, Morten A. Strøksnes, Ragnfrid Trohaug and Tor Eystein Øverås.

The book was edited by Thoralf Fagertun and Morten Wintervold. The book is published by Orkana forlag and the publication is supported by Fritt Ord.

    Bodo Radio

Directly from Bodø comes the trio Bodø Radio, with their very own twist on folk punk – served with ukulele, bass and djembe. The lyrics are delivered in the sounding Northern Norwegian (sællsagt), and the band has been referred to as "Gatas Kanal" - honest stories about the dark and bright sides of life.
