Olsokforedgrag: The true story of Thieving Henry

Beiarn Folk Museum

Speaker: Helge Seim, conservator at Nordlandsmuseet Meløy

Admission NOK 90,- adults, children free. Tickets available at the door.

IN Meløy There is a legend that tells of a shady man who went by the name of Thief-Henrik. Henrik and his wife had for a long time terrorized the common people of Meløya by stealing from them everything they came across. During the day they hid in a cave, but when night fell they went on a robbery spree.

Unfortunately for our criminal friend, the common people managed to find out where they were staying. As a result, one day armed men appeared outside the thieves' den. As a result, the thieves were ambushed, captured, and shot.

Like other legends, it has its origins in reality. But since the story has been passed down through the centuries, much of the detail has been erased and some elements have been changed, but Henry was a real person. And unlike many other legends, the real story of Henry the Thief is far more spectacular and entertaining.
