The summer program at the Hamsun Center is ready.
This summer, experiences and activities for the whole family are being arranged at the Hamsun Center. The summer season runs from June 14th to August 17th.
Day program 14 June - 17 August
Architecture walk: At 11 a.m.*
Join a guided walk through the leaning tower and gain insight into why the Hamsun Center's architecture is the way it is and what connection it has to Hamsun's literature. Along the way, you will also gain insight into the Hamsun Center's four different exhibitions. We start on the 1st floor, work our way up and end on the roof terrace.
The hike takes about 30 minutes.
Guided tour in English on request. Ask at the reception.
Express writing course in 30 minutes: 1:00 PM*
This year, the Hamsun Center is trying out a new concept, a compact 30-minute writing course. A facilitator guides you through the writing experience, and at the end you have the opportunity to publish a few lines of what you have written. The writing course is held inside the center or on the roof terrace in good weather.
Conducted in Norwegian.
Summer Lecture: 2:00 PM*
In this year's lecture, we will see how Hamsun's books contain depictions that can be linked to the modern concept of mindfulness. It is about the ability to be mindfully present in the here and now, which is briefly depicted by the main characters and narrators - what it is about, when it works and when it doesn't. The lecture will take approx. 20 minutes and will take place in the Adventure Hall.
Conducted in Norwegian.
Architecture walk: At 15.00*

Forest Path Mysteries
Experience the short, beautiful forest trail Mysteries in the Forest between the Hamsun Center and the Glimma stream. Along the trail you will be able to discover artistic expressions in natural materials made especially for the Hamsun Center, and in the shore stones there are hidden treasures. The art along the trail and on the shore is made by artist Kamilla Sajetz Mathisen. Read more about the forest trail here .
"The Voice of Life – Computer Games"
This summer you can take part in testing a computer game based on Hamsun's famous short story "The Voice of Life". The game is still under development, but a test version will be available to guests this summer. The game takes about 12 minutes and will be available during opening hours at the Hamsun Center. Please contact the reception to try the game.
The computer game "The Voice of Life" has been developed as part of the InterReg project N-lite, in which the Hamsun Center and the Nordlandsmuseet are partner organizations. The project aims to develop technology for literary tourism in remote areas. The game is being developed by the Finnish University of Kajaani, in collaboration with the Hamsun Center.
The game has Norwegian voices and English subtitles.
