Exhibition opening at The Jekt Trade Museum
Through warm, tactile and poetic textile works, textile artists Vibeke Steinsholm and Monika Sunnanå Ravnanger explore the textile cultural heritage along the Norwegian coast and in Iceland.
Based on traditional textiles such as boat scarves, Icelandic varafells and the little-known weaving lunges, they highlight stories about care, survival, craftsmanship and proximity to the sea.
Made from wool and recycled materials, the workers are based on knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation between women. The textiles bear witness to a time when material knowledge, craftsmanship and care were crucial for people who lived and worked in harsh conditions.
The exhibition features both traditional and innovative works inspired by the coastal landscape, light, weather and people's lives by the sea. At the same time, the artists address issues of sustainability, material use and our relationship with nature today.
A tribute to the textile heritage, the knowledge of women and the work of the hand - knowledge that is still relevant in the face of the future.
