Lecture: Little money, many resources

  • Steigen Public Library 1 Myklebostad Leinesfjord, Nordland, 8283 Norway (map)

What can we learn from our ancestors?

How did the women manage to feed their families through the long winter here in the north and not only keep them full, but provide them with everything their bodies needed, even though almost everything that came to the table had to be brought from their own local area?

Bente Rød Larsen is Senior Lecturer Emeritus at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nord University. She is a trained social anthropologist.

She will tell how fisherwomen and Sami women ensured a good and proper diet. What plants they harvested from nature and how they used them.

She will provide a picture of how the authorities in the south viewed the living conditions in the north and at the same time draw attention to how they used nature, which we would today consider sustainable!

Simple serving of traditional food Steigen rural women's group!

Price: NOK 100 / free for everyone under 18

Language: The lecture will be held in Norwegian.
