New director at the Hamsun Center
Nordlandsmuseet has hired Monica Celius as the new director of the Hamsun Center in Hamarøy – a center dedicated to the life and writings of Knut Hamsun. Since its opening in 2009, the Hamsun Center has established itself as an important cultural institution, both nationally and internationally.
The position became vacant after former director Solveig Hirsch resigned on June 1. Monica Celius will join during the winter and will lead the center into a new phase.
Celius comes from the position of general manager and artistic director at Glasslåven in Hadeland.
– I am grateful for the trust, and look forward to becoming part of the talented team at the Hamsun Center and the Nordlandsmuseet, says Celius.
She describes the Hamsun Center as a well-established and exciting cultural center with great development potential – both academically, artistically and as a visitor destination.
– In the coming years, I hope even more people will experience everything the center and the area have to offer. I am also looking forward to moving to beautiful Hamarøy. As a half-Nordlander and a former active dog sledder, I am not afraid of the weather, she assures.
– We look forward to collaborating with Monica and further developing the Hamsun Center as an important cultural institution, says Ole Jakob Furset, director of Nordlandsmuseet.
