Spring lecture: When “made in Bodø” was a given

Throughout the 20th century, industry, production and craftsmanship were a natural part of everyday life in Bodø. Factories and workshops provided work, community and belonging. Today, much of this is gone, but the traces live on in the city, in history and in the people. This spring's lecture series at the Bodø City Museum invites the public to join in the story - Who were we, and who did we become?

The exhibition Made in Bodø

In the fall of 2025, the Bodø City Museum opened the exhibition “Made in Bodø”, telling the story of the city's industrial heritage. Here you can learn about workshops and factories throughout the 20th century, and reflect on how local industry, production and working life have left their mark - in the city, in society and in people. Made in Bodø is not only a nostalgic tribute to “the way it used to be”, but also an invitation to reflection, conversation and recognition. A reminder that history is not only found in archives, but in the city around us and in the people who still carry it with them.

Spring lecture

In winter/spring 2026, the City Museum invites the public to join the story behind the scenes, through the lecture series that follows the exhibition Made in Bodø. The lecture series takes you into the city's industrial and social development, told through specific places, workplaces and people.

We get to see the everyday life at Bertnes Ullvarefabrikk, seen through the eyes of a boy who got to work with his grandfather. We get insight into the business around Frostfilet at Langstranda during World War II - a place where industry, war and human destinies existed side by side. We hear about the entrepreneurs who dared to take risks and who drove the city forward, long before words like “innovation” and “entrepreneurship” became fashionable.
