Boatbuilder Ulf Mikalsen from Kjerringøy gives a lecture about the versatile Nordlandsbåten - a boat that has been an important part of life along the Norwegian coast for centuries.

For generations, the Nordlandsbåten was crucial in securing food and sustenance for the population along large parts of the Norwegian coast. In the lecture, Ulf Mikalsen gives an insight into how the Nordlandsbåten has developed over the years, and how the boatbuilders, in close collaboration with the fishermen, adapted the boat to new needs and new times. You will hear about how the construction of Nidaros Cathedral was financed through a fixed fee for each skrei fished, and how the Nordlandsbåten accounted for the majority of this catch through many generations.
