The government proposes nine million for the Hamsun Center
In the proposed state budget for 2027, the government proposes four million kroner for the revitalization of the Hamsun Center, with a commitment of an additional five million in later budget years. Total state participation will be nine million kroner.
— This is very good. The county has invested a lot of money in renovating the building itself, and now the state is getting involved. This means that we can carry out a full revitalization of the Hamsun Center, says director Ole J. Furset in Nordlandsmuseet .
The project is called New Views, and includes new exhibitions and investments in the outdoor area.
— We received the message with great joy. This means that in the coming years we can renew the exhibitions and the audience experiences. We can make much-needed upgrades, including a larger kitchen and café, says Monica Celius, director of the Hamsun Center.
The Hamsun Center is a national center for the dissemination of Knut Hamsun's life and writings. The building was built in 2009, and the budget proposal states that technical installations and exhibition production have reached their expected lifespan and need to be renewed.
"The exterior renovation that was recently completed, and this interior renovation, are a whole. Now the Hamsun Center is getting a quality boost that ensures its continued operation as a national cultural building," says Celius.
The money comes from the national cultural buildings section. The Hamsun Center is one of seven new projects that will receive funding in 2027.
The government also proposes to increase the operating subsidy to Nordlandsmuseet from NOK 23.53 to 24.22 million.
