The history of the farm

Sjønstå Farm is one of Nordland's most unique cultural monuments, with a history that stretches back to 1665. The farm's courtyard-shaped facilities were listed in 2006, and it has been a hub for agriculture, fishing and trade for centuries. The 22 preserved buildings tell of a time when the yachting trade to Bergen and participation in the Lofoten fishing industry linked the farm to larger trade networks.

Since the 1970s, volunteers and the Sjønstå Farm Foundation have worked tirelessly to preserve this cultural treasure. Today, you can visit an authentic Nordland farmyard, where the terraced fields still bear witness to the sustainable agriculture of yesteryear. Take part in living history and experience the timeless charm of Sjønstå Farm!
