The City Museum in Bodø , The Jekt Trade Museum and the Hamsun Center is open all year round. On Kjerringøy trading post You can visit us every Saturday outside the summer season. Our other facilities in Salten can be visited by appointment. Read on for inspiration and tips.
The Jekt Trade Museum
By the sea in Bodøsjøen in Bodø lies The Jekt Trade Museum , with the only preserved original Nordlandjekta in the exhibition. Here you can learn about the stockfish trade, the fishing and farming community and life on board the jekta that connected Northern Norway with the rest of Europe. Bodø City Museum
The city museum is located in a listed building from 1903, in the middle of Bodø city center. In 2026, the museum will show an exhibition about Bodø's industrial history on the first floor, and changing Sami art on the second. In the basement you will find the protected dry aquarium from the post-war period. The museum was renovated and made accessible to everyone in 2024. Read more about the museum…

Kjerringøy Trading Post
On Saturdays you can visit Kjerringøy outside Bodø The café is open, and you can explore the area on your own. Kjerringøy trading post is one of Norway's best-preserved trading posts from the 19th century, with 15 listed buildings and preserved interiors. Here you will find French wallpaper in the Main House, a maritime collection with a Nordland boat from 1820, and a krambod where the selection of goods from the 19th century is still on the shelves. Student discount and annual pass
At all our facilities we have discounted entrance prices for students during regular opening hours. At the City Museum and The Jekt Trade Museum A student ticket costs NOK 130, compared to NOK 150 for an adult.
You can also use the annual pass. With your student ID you get an annual pass for Nordlandsmuseet for NOK 200. Do you visit both the City Museum and The Jekt Trade Museum , you've already earned your annual pass — and saved a little extra.
The card is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase and gives you unlimited entry to all of our 19 museum facilities in Salten during regular museum visits during opening hours. In addition, you get a 10% discount in all museum shops. In autumn and spring, you can use the card at the facilities that are open all year round. In summer, the card is valid at all facilities, except the visitor mine.
The card does not apply to lectures, concerts or other events with separate ticket sales. The card can be sent by post or picked up at the City Museum in Bodø .

The facilities that are closed outside the summer season can still be visited by appointment. Some accept individual visitors, others accept groups. Please contact us well in advance and we will find a time that suits you.

The guide will take you through the museum's seven rooms: from the occupation, the war in Saltdal , the Serbian space and peace in Saltdal Each room has its own stories, based on photos, eyewitness accounts and knowledge of history.
Guided tour of the war cemeteries in Botn
The guide will take you through the stories of life on the Blood Road and in the camp in Botn, about Commander Fritz Kiefer, and about those who died and those who escaped. You will also hear how the war cemeteries came to be, and about the relationship between the Yugoslav and German war cemeteries.

Winter experience with dining
The tour starts in Stornaustet with a focus on the boats. Then the trip goes to Heimbrygga with information about skrei, herring and cod liver oil, and on to Kramboden with stories about trade with Europe via Bergen and trade in the Cretaceous. We end in the living rooms of the main house, with stories about the traders, Anna Elisabeth, innovation and wealth. After the tour, fish soup with fresh bread is served.
The Fisherman
Outdoor tour with a focus on the fishermen. The guided tour has three stops and starts with an introduction inspired by Johan Bojer's novel "The Last Viking". After the tour, one of three food menus is served.

Learn about the church's history, architecture and community life, told through what we can see in the church today.

We monitor human activity on Gildeskål from the year 200, with burial mounds from the Iron Age, traces of stone extraction on the rocky cliffs, distinctive place names and the cemetery. The tour provides a greater understanding of why the church site was built here.

Anna Elisabeth of Kjerringøy
You will be taken back to the 19th century, to the time of the clipfish and the crane. The tour takes place in the main house, where Mrs. Anna Elisabeth lived her life. All objects in the house belonged to Anna Elisabeth and her family. You will get an insight into the differences between the servants and the family themselves, and how hard life could be in a northern Norwegian trading post .
Kjerringøy trading post — an innovative and forward-thinking company
This tour also takes place in the main building, but with a different focus. Here, the financial acumen of the operators of the trading place — Christian Sverdrup, Jens Nicolai Ellingsen, Anna Elisabeth Ellingsen Zahl and Erasmus BK Zahl — takes center stage. You'll hear how they thought innovatively and long-term, and how they ran the place like the business it was.

Guided tour of the City Museum in Bodø
You will be guided through the entire exhibition. We usually show one exhibition related to the city's history and one art exhibition.
The guide will take you on a walk through the history of Saltdalen. You will hear about the operation and bankruptcy of Skippergården, see the boats in the yard, visit Myrlandsstua and the schoolhouse from Dverset.
The tour covers local war history, explains the strategic importance and operation of the cannons, and discusses how the setting up of Batterie Dietl affected the local population, Soviet prisoners of war, other workers, and the soldiers of the occupying forces.
We also offer tailor-made tours of the fortress area or the prisoner of war camp upon request.
You can book three different tours at Fauske Folk Museum . One tour tells about the everyday life of the northern Norwegian fishing and farming family. Another tells the stories of the famous healer Johannes Brateng. The third is a tour of the seasonal temporary exhibition. We can also adapt the presentation as desired based on these themes.

Ørnes trading post and the modernization of Ørnes
Ørnes trading post has a history that stretches back to 1794, when the jekt skipper Elling Pedersen was allowed to run a shop and inn on the site. This made Ørnes to a hub along the coast of Northern Norway, at a time when cities hardly existed and trading posts functioned as centers for the villages. Ørnes trading post became a gathering point for the local community, and remained so for generations. The exhibition also examines the modernization process in Meløy from 1900 to 1950.
Operation Musket Thunder
At Gammelbakeriet you can learn the story of the sabotage operation during World War II, also known as "Operation Muskedunder". 12 men risked their lives to sabotage the Nazi aluminum production in Glomfjord, which is a 20-minute drive outside of Ørnes .

From the heyday of the skipper nobility to the last residents, Hanna and Arnolda Krogh Hansen. The tour includes the second floor and stairs, and is best suited for adults.

A walk through the farm's history with the outspoken Grovtausa. The tour includes the second floor and stairs, and is best suited for adults.
On Steigen Folk Museum You will gain insight into the working and living conditions of the district doctor while seeing the living rooms and the doctor's office that were in operation from 1877 to 1962. You will visit a fully furnished Nordland house and hear about how fishermen and farmers lived around 1900. The tour covers all the houses on the farm.
A tour of Sjønstå Farm takes you through the farm's history, from its origins in 1665, through life as fishing farmers, the encounter with industry, the exodus in the 1900s, and up to the present day.
Join a tour of the exhibition "Once upon a time..." at Beiarn Folk Museum The exhibition is about the history of the rectory and various forms of living cultural heritage that are now in danger of being lost.
Join a tour of the Sulitjelma Mining Museum and hear about the people who built an entire community around the copper mines. The collections cover all aspects of the mining community — minerals, labor movement, transportation history, and sports.
Take the original mining locomotive 1.6 kilometers into Sulitjelmafjellet and experience a glimpse of Sulitjelmafjellet’s 100-year mining history. The visit begins with a brief introduction to the mines in the area and the foundation stone. You will then be transported into the mountain, where experienced guides share stories about mining and life as a miner in the 1900s.
In the childhood home you are greeted by a narrator who invites you to join him for a story telling session around the table over a cup of coffee. The story is about Hamsun's journey from his birthplace in Gudbrandsdalen, to his upbringing in Hamarøy and teenage life in Nordland, until he took the step into the world at the age of nineteen to become a writer.
Meløy The village museum takes you back to an important chapter in local history. You will learn about the development of the school, the lives of the students and the everyday lives of the fishermen. Walk through historic classrooms in an authentic school building from 1923, and gain an insight into what schooling and boarding life was like for children in the village. The children stayed at the school for 14 days before going home to their families.
Our guide takes you through the nooks and crannies of the building, into Hamsun's literature and upbringing. Hamarøy , and shows how architect Steven Holl created what he calls "a hamsun figure in the architectural sense". Duration 30 min to 1 hour. Number of participants 15 to 25.

Hold the meeting in a listed building from 1903, in the middle of Bodø city center. You have a café and museum shop in the same building, and the exhibitions are right outside the meeting room.
